Event Overview

Sheet Plant Association 97th Conference ... Treat yourself to time out of the office, a packed agenda of Industry-specific content plus plenty of time to network, socialise and get up-to-speed with what's going on in the Industry and the wider UK Economy.

Oulton Hall, near Leeds boasts a wonderful 27 hole golf course, leisure suite all set in the beautiful surroundings of the West Yorshire countryside.

Your Committee is pulling together the Conference Content and the Agenda is taking shape nicely...

We are all concerned about the current paper supply situation - so the SPA have invited the Industry's sheet feeders to give their views/insight into UK Sheetfeeding and Paper. We will be hearing from a major Paper Company who will be sharing with us investment plans and what they are doing to help Sheet Plants during these testing times... In addition to the thoughts of our sheet suppliers and a paper company we will be hearing the observations and opinions of an independent paper buyer (agent).

The prospect of a 'No Deal' Brexit is making Industry and individual companies look at 'contiguencies' should there be interuption to trade and specifically delays and interuptions to paper supply to the UK.. we shall be calling on experts to give us their opinion on the likelihood of disruption and what we can all do to minimise or negate fully these risks.

On the topic of Brexit (deal or no deal) we are delighted to have Miranda Barker from the Chamber of Commerce hosting a Question and Answer session around the fall out from Brexit and what if anything businesses can do to limit the perceived risks of a bad deal or no deal for the UK with the EU.

Simon Weston, Director of Raw Materials for the CPI, will explain elements of the PRN system and offer reasons for the recent increase in paper PRN prices.  He will also explain how this may be a precursor to future changes to the Producer Responsibility System in the UK and explain the likely effect that costs of compliance might have for UK manufacturing, including UK sheet plants.

The SPA has a Lean Manufacturing Programme which has been one of our major initiatives in the last couple of years. Alan Millar will be illustrating how adoption of the SPA Lean Manufacturing Programme can transform your machine efficencies and your resultant growth and profitability.

We will be treated to a Supplier Spotlight from M and K Trading

There will be an CPI Promotional Committee Update from Neil Osment in the absence of Andrew Barnetson expanding on the great work they are doing promoting the use of paper and corrugated products.

Also expect your regular 'Ring of Defence' contributions from ...

Luke Menzies from Menzies Law will be giving us an Employment Law Update and he will be discussing (amongst other topics) how members have got on introducing the new SPA Social Media Policy and guidelines...

Andy Ely from TUV Nord will be keeping us abreast of Health & Safety issues that affect our Industry.

Adam Kene from Kene Partners will be updating us on R&D Tax Credits and will be doing his best to persuade those members who haven't yet made claims to do so...

Neil Osment from NOA will be discussing in detail what this means for corrugated and for sheet plants in the UK in his presentation Corrugated Industry Update - Implications for Corrugated
