Event Overview

SPA 109th Conference is taking place on Monday 17th June at Tewkesbury Park Hotel, Lincoln Green Lane, Tewkesbury   GL20 7DN

The focus of this SPA Conference is "Creativity in a changing world".

All presentations and content will be geared towards this theme with an emphasis on Automation, Robotics and Materials Handling Equipment. We strongly recommend that all Converter Members attend and encourage colleagues across the business to attend too - there will be valuable sessions for all!  We encourage Converter Members to bring along colleagues who have not attended Conference before.

Conference will be packed with 100% relevant presentations and content... and there will be plenty of time to network and socialise both at lunch, at the 'sponsored' bar, during and after dinner, at breakfast on 18th June and at SPA Member-Only events.

Discussion Panel - Innovation and Automation

Our expert panel will be discussing "Why Automate ? Cost vs Benefit. ROI. Funding Options (grants?). How to get the ball rolling and get started on Automation." Confirmed panellists: 

Simon Mander, Managing Director of Avanti Conveyors who provide British made materials handling and logistic solutions for the corrugated packaging industry. 

Michele De Vido, Fossaluzza Srl who specialise in constructing machines for cardboard processing.

David Williams, Managing Director of GTS Europe Ltd, who supply equipment and solutions for the ‘factory of the future’ 

Callum Williams (senior economics writer for the Economist) will be joining Conference to give us a live Economics Update - “Has Globalisation run its course and how is the UK actually performing post Brexit / post pandemic” 

"What Sheet Plants need to do now with EPR" - Connie Smith, General Manager, PaperPak

Connie will be outlining the practical steps needed for data collection - and will definitely be steering away from the “philosophy” / politics of EPR!

UK Corrugated Industry Update - Neil Osment, Managing Director, NOA Ltd

Neil will be delivering a snapshot in time overview of UK Corrugated Production, the European Corrugated Market, Growth Opportunities, Plastics Substitution and the Prospects for Paper Packaging in 2024.

Beyond the Box Update - Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI).  

Andy Barnetson returns to SPA Conference to give delegates an update on Beyond the Box promotional, and other CPI activity.

HOUSEKEEPING:

• Conference will be held in the Berkeley Suite at Tewkesbury Park Hotel, Tewkesbury.
• All first-time attendees and new SPA members are invited to attend an informal Welcome by the SPA Committee at 12:15 in the Berkeley Suite Bar, followed by a buffet lunch.
• Conference commences at 1:30pm and is due to end by 6:00pm.
• A sponsored bar will be open immediately following the organised event by SPA Emerging Leaders - with thanks to Avanti Conveyors and Fossaluzza, Sponsors of the event.
• Check-in for Full Delegates will take place during afternoon coffee break (location to be confirmed).
• Delegates will need to register a credit card at main reception to enable drinks to be charged to their rooms.
