Trade Union Rights Update for SPA Members
SPA Members can now access a new guidance note from the Association's retained employment law specialists, Menzies Law, outlining the forthcoming changes to UK trade union legislation.
The update explains the new workplace access rights expected to come into force in October 2026, including how qualifying trade unions may request physical and digital access to workers for recruitment, representation and collective bargaining purposes. It also covers wider reforms to the statutory trade union recognition process and the new requirement for employers to inform employees of their right to join a trade union.
The guidance highlights the practical considerations for manufacturing businesses, including reviewing site access procedures, preparing management teams for access requests and strengthening employee engagement through effective communication and Employee Forums.
Members are encouraged to read the full update to understand the changes and ensure their business is well prepared for the evolving industrial relations landscape.
